Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

How soon should I place my order?
As soon as possible. This isn't my full time occupation and I have to juggle my cake orders around a very busy family life so the sooner you can place your order and confirm the date, the better. All orders require a booking fee to secure the date. More information can be found in my Terms and Conditions.

What size cake should I order?
The size of your cake will depend on how many people you want to feed, how much they like cake and how generous you are when cutting your slices. The current fashion for cakes is to achieve a height of around 4" (10cm) which makes for a sizeable piece of cake when cut to the recommended serving size for a portion of cake is approximately 2" x 1" (5cm x 2.5cm).

Whilst a six-inch (15cm) round cake can sound small, it actually comes in at around 4.5lbs (2kg) in weight once you've accounted for the filing and covering so your slices will be around 6oz (150g) and you'll get 12-14 helpings out of it.

Depending on your design requirements, it may be worth considering a multi-tier cake or some cupcakes in a complementary colour/style to increase the number of servings you have at your disposal.

If you're having a birthday cake for smaller people, perhaps half a slice each will suit - or maybe think about mini cupcakes which make a great treat without feeling quite so guilty.

Why does my cake weigh so much?
All my cakes are made from scratch and will be filled and covered with your choice of jam, buttercream, ganache and/or fondant. Each of these components adds to the overall weight of a cake so when you take delivery, you may be surprised that your cake feels much heavier in the box than a similarly sized shop-bought cake. My cakes are also at least 4" deep depending on design - this is often double the depth of a shop bought cake meaning you get very generous portions in comparison!

Why do your cakes cost so much?
When you buy a custom cake, you're not just paying for the finished product. You're also paying for a cake that has a whole lot of love and care put into it - right from the design to the choice of ingredients to the assurance you get from buying from a Cakery that is fully insured and registered with South Gloucestershire council.

What flavours do you offer?
I'd love to say 'anything but vanilla' but this is the most popular flavour I sell. Head over to the Flavours page to view the wide range of options I can offer (including the flavour of 2019 - apple crumble with custard buttercream) - or get creative and come up with your own!

Can you make an exact copy of a cake?
Many customers share pictures of cakes they've found on the internet as sources of inspiration. I am unable to produce exact replicas for a number of reasons - including copyright law (particularly where cartoon characters are involved); due to the availability of certain tools and products ; and because I respect the right of other bakers and cakers to the uniqueness of their own designs. However I am happy to create cakes based on ideas provided to me and will endeavour to meet requirements as closely as I can.

Do you cater for food intolerances and allergies?
I am able to create cakes that cater for people with food intolerances but am unable to guarantee my products are suitable for people with allergies. Please see my Terms and Conditions for further information.
